'Toned Down' La Ronde Opens Tonight

When the Harvard Dramatic Club's production of "La Ronde" opens tonight, it will be slightly "toned down" due to the advice of Robert H. Chapman, associate professor of English, according to Director Robert Jordan '59.

Jordan said yesterday that before the dress rehearsal he cut a total of about three pages of script from the Eric Bentley translation of Arthur Schnitzler's play. He said he also "eased up" on certain pieces of blocking to accord with Chapman's suggestion that certain parts of the original might "shock people."

Watson and Lacey Attend

At the dress rehearsal Wednesday night, the HDC invited Dean Watson and Radcliffe's Dean Lacey, "due to the extraordinary character of the script," David E. Green '58, HDC president and producer of "La Ronde," said yesterday. It was not intended as an "approval session," and neither dean commented officially on the performance, he added.

Last night, WHRB announced that it had told Councilor Al Vellucci about the character of the production. Vellucci said that he would attend the opening night to investigate.
