The varsity lacrosse team, having faced the strongest squad in the Ivy League at Princeton last Saturday, travels to Hanover tomorrow to take on perhaps the second strongest. After last week's 18-2 rout at the hands of the Tigers, the chances for a victory tomorrow seem slim.
The Dartmouth team upset Yale, last year's Ivy League champion, last weekend by a score 11 to 10, though Yale still holds second place in the League by virtue of having played one more game than the Indians.
The Crimson now stands fifth, with a victory over last-place Penn to its credit, as opposed to defeats by Cornell and Princeton.
The varsity will be playing under two disadvantages tomorrow: first, the obvious one of playing on unfamiliar ground, and second, the fact that one and probably two of its key players will be out of action with injuries.
Tom Crump may be out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury suffered in the Princeton game. His place in the defense lineup has been filled very competently, however, by Bob Fallon in the past two games.
Jerry Cotter's condition is still uncertain after a shoulder dislocation last week. It is improbable that he will start tomorrow, especially considering the outstanding performance of Dub Mallonee in the 11-5 victory over Tufts on Wednesday.
Otherwise, the main problem confronting the team is that of taking enough shots at the opponents' goal. Even in the Tufts game the shot production was notably lax, as it has been all season.
The starting attack lineup, providing Cotter doesn't play, will be Mike Shaw, Dick Pille, and Mallonee. Captain Mac Hyde, Tim Draper, and Jim Gale will be at midfield, with Jim Herscot, John Baldwin, and Fallon at defense. Dick MacKinnon will play goal.
The freshman team also travels to Hanover tomorrow, and it, too, should have a difficult time gaining a win. The Yardlings, crushed by Williams in their last outing, have two victories this year against five defeats.
