Despite the absence of four of the varsity tennis team's top five men, the Crimson still managed to defeat a weak Brown squad, 9 to 0, yesterday at Providence, with the loss of only one set.

Dale Junta, Steve Gottlieb, Larry Sears, and Cal Place all took brief vacations from the intercollegiate circuit, leaving Ben Heckscher and the bottom five men on the team to deal with the Bruins.

At first singles, Heckscher defeated Brown's top player, Ed Flattau, 6-1, 6-3, again demonstrating the depth of the Crimson team. Number six man Phil Mills, moved up to Gottlieb's second position to top Ruff Bullock by a handy 6-3, 6-0 count.

The remaining four singles positions were filled by captain Ian Gianetti, Al Goldman, Ned Weld, and Jim Cameron, all of whom won in two sets. Only Goldman was forced to a deuce set in defeating Bob Cole, 6-2, 7-5.

The doubles combinations completed the Crimson's thirteenth victory of the year. Heckscher teamed with Mills to top Bullock and Don Seward, 6-4, 6-2.
