The varsity lacrosse team, fresh from its first victory of the year on Wednesday, will atempt to net its first Ivy win when it meets Penn on the Business School field this afternoon at 3 p.m.

The Penn squad, which fared little better than the Crimson in its early-season games, should provide fairly even competition for the varsity. Aside from a veteran midfield, the Quakers' team is dominated by sophomores.

The main problem confronting the Crimson is one of depth, as it has been throughout the season. Jim Herscot, who has been out of action during the past week with an ankle injury, will return to the starting lineup, thus bolstering the varsity's defense, but Dick Pille and Dave Newhall are still unavailable.

Coach Bruce Munro, who normally uses only three midfield teams during a game, rotated four to wear down the M.I.T. teams in Wednesday's 6-4 victory. But such a strategy involves the calculated risk that the opposing team will score against the weak fourth line, for the Crimson is notably weak in reserves.

Though the varsity reserves held up well during the Tech game, the Engineers could hardly be called strong opposition, and in last Saturday's game at Cornell, it was lack of Crimson depth that allowed the Big Red to run away with a previously close game in the final period.

The freshman squad, which has won two out of its four games this season, plays Tabor Academy at Marion, (Mass.), this afternoon, in what ought to be a reasonably easy contest for the Yardlings.
