The varsity lacrosse team kept the score close for three periods of its game against Cornell at Ithaca Saturday, but in the last quarter the Big Red squad staged a sudden four-goal outburst to win the game, 10 to 5.

The Crimson attack, led by Jerry Pyle who scored two goals, registered four tallies in the second period to offset the Cornell team's first quarter lead. Pyle Francis Loewald, Barry Saxe, and Mike Shaw provided the scoring shots in this rally.

The half ended in a 4 to 4 tie. Pyle added the fifth Crimson goal in the third period, but the Big Red came back with two to lead, 6 to 5, going into the final quarter. Then came Cornell's four-goal surge to put the winners out of reach.

Both teams, under the unusually hot sun, played a rather logy brand of lacrosse. The Crimson defense held off the Big Red offense well until the ill-starred fourth period, but the attack and midfield couldn't keep the ball in Cornell territory long enough to produce the much-needed runs during the second half.

The varsity's record now stands at six losses and one tie.

The freshmen team showed an extremely powerful attack Saturday as they crushed Andover, 9 to 4. Eight of the Yardlings' goals were scored by the first attack line, composed of captain Phil Hudner (with three tallies), Nick Lamont (two), and John Righter (three).

The freshmen took an early lead with four goals in the opening period, added three in the second, and were never seriously threatened by their prep school opponents. Midfieldman Mike Rockefeller registered the ninth Crimson score.
