Nine to Play Cornell

The Crimson baseball team will meet Cornell tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. on Soldiers Field. The varsity will enter its first Ivy League contest with three straight, and solid, Greater Boston League victories and a rainy southern junket under its belt.

Dom Repetto is scheduled to pitch for the Crimson. Repetto beat Tufts 9 to 3 on Tuesday, giving up five walks and striking out two in a contest notable for errors.

Receiving Repetto behind the plate will again be Phil Haughey. Although Haughey's hitting has not lived up to the hopes raised by his performance in the M.I.T. game, immediately following the southern swing, he seems assured of his starting position, partly because of his popularity with the mound crew, and partly because possible alternative Matt Botsford has not hit a great deal better. More important probably, is coach Norm Shepard's disinclination to juggle a winning lineup.

After scoring one and batting in two more runs on three times at bat against M.I.T., Haughey has scored once, hit twice, and batted in no runs on nine times at bat. In twelve times at bat, Botsford has scored three, hit three, and batted in four runs.

Offensively, the Crimson has scored 29 runs in its three GBL victories on 33 hits. Much of this strength has been concentrated in second baseman Bob Cleary, captain and first baseman John Simourian, shortstop Bob Hastings, and left fielder John Getch. Right fielder Botsford, who bats fifth, has been less consistent.

Last year, Cornell slipped a 3-2 victory over on the varsity, coming from two runs behind. Winning pitcher Billy DeGraaf, who kept the slumping varsity from earning a single run, will not be on hand this year. Not only has this year's Crimson been notably stronger on offense, but the veteran squad has also presented a tight defense, with the exception of Tuesday's brief lapse against Boston University.

Also in the Soldiers Field area, the Yardlings will face a reportedly weak Exeter team, also at 3 p.m. Tomorrow's game will be the first for the freshman team.
