The Crimson lacrosse team rates about an even chance for a victory this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. when it meets Cornell in Ithaca. Last year the squad was edged by the Big Red, 12 to 9.
Probable starting midfield for the Crimson will be captain Mac Hyde, Jim Gale and Tim Draper. For the defense, John Baldwin, Tom Crump and either Bob Shaunessy or Jim Herscot will start. Crump has been suffering from a bad cold this week, and Herscot has a slightly injured ankle.
On the attack, Jerry Cotter, Mike Shaw, and Dub Mallonee will probably start. Mallonee replaces Dick Pille, who is out of action with a sprained ankle. Dick MacKinnon will be in the goal for the Crimson.
The team opened its season last Saturday with an 8 to 3 loss to the Boston Lacrosse Club. In the opener, the defense proved to be the strong point in Crimson play, but Crump and Herscot both are in questionable shape for today's match.
The Yardling lacrosse squad will meet Andover this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. on the lacrosse field. The Andover squad, who romped over the Tufts freshmen earlier in the season, are rated strong by coach Bob Pickett, who expects a "pretty good game."
Freshman Lineup
Captain Phil Hudner, John Righter, and Nick Lamont will probably open for the powerful Yardling attack. Dick Parks, Mike Rockefeller, and John Gould are the likely starters for the midfield.
Dain Trafton, Ed Tarlov, and John von Stade will probably open on defense for the Yardlings. Tom Day will start in the goal.
Hudner leads the Yardling ten in scoring, with nine goals so far in the first two games. Andover is not rated as highly as Deerfield, who last week topped the Yardlings 8 to 6.
