WASHINGTON, April 19--Teamsters Union President Dave Beck today launched a fight to void his suspension as an AFL-CIO officer.
Beck wrote AFL-CIO President George Meany he considers the suspension without effect. He also said the federation's ouster move against the Teamsters Union itself could not proceed until more specific charges were made.
Beck's decision to fight it out with fellow labor leaders was met with a "so what" attitude on the part of top AFL-CIO officers. It also brought a suggestion from Sen. Mundt (R-S.D.) that the Senate Rackets Investigating Committee wants to get Beck back on the witness stand soon for more questioning.
Zhukov Threatens West
MOSCOW, April 19--Marshal Georgi K. Zhukov warned the West tonight that the Moscow-directed Warsaw Pact powers will match NATO bomb for bomb, missile for missile.
Nikita Khrushchev told the Western powers to keep their hands off the Communist world, particularly East Germany lest it become necessary to "rap your knuckles.'
Khrushchev directed his remarks to the Western powers.
"We want to warn the capitalist countries, do not joke with us, do not try to test us like you did in Hungary with the putsch. You think of doing it, not only in Hungary, but also maybe in East Germany. Be careful. We are not saints and if necessary we will rap your knuckles."
Polish Accord Near
WASHINGTON, April 19--The United States was reported today to have boosted to 100 million dollars the amount of aid being offered to Poland.
At the same time, it was understood, a new and simpler program for providing this aid has been devised.
No final decision clinching the deal had yet been made by Secretary of State Dulles. But both American and Polish negotiators were described as hopeful that, if all goes well, they can shake hands on an agreement by May 10.
