Top seeded defending champion Ben Heckscher led a Harvard advance into the third round of the Intercollegiate Squash Championships at M.I.T. yesterday. Heckscher drew a first round bye and then defeated Army's Tony Ellison in the second round.
Number two man on the Crimson varsity, Cal Place, also advanced into the third round. He won his first round match handily from Fox of Cornell and took his second encounter to gain a spot in the third round.
The one varsity casualty was Larry Sears. After winning an easy first round match from Dvorkin of Cornell, Sears ran into fifth-seeded Griffith of Navy and could not handle the Annapolis star.
Charlie MacVeagh also won an easy opening round encounter from Brown of Fordham in the morning and then joined Heckscher and Place in the third round with a second win in the afternoon.
