The varsity squash team brought its season's record to 9-2 yesterday afternoon by soundly defeating Amherst, 9 to 0. It was the Crimson's seventh win by that margin so far this year.
There was only one close match, at seventh singles, in which Bob Hartley defeated Amherst's Bill Lane, 3 to 2, after dropping the first two games.
At first singles, Ben Heckscher ran Bob Dillon ragged for the first two games, which he split with the Amherst player, and then swept the last two, each at 15-6, with Dillon no longer able to make the "gets" which had kept him in the match up to that point.
At second singles, Cal Place was very effective, topping Dave Hicks in three quick games, 15-10, 15-3, 15-11. Pete Lund at number five also played well in defeating Tony Hazen, 15-12, 15-4, 15-3.
At number three singles, Charlie Hamm won easily in four games from Paul Vonckx, and at ninth singles Tom Lee, playing his first varsity match, also won, 3 to 1.
