UNITED NATIONS, N.Y., Feb. 18--Britain and Greece clashed bitterly in the United Nations today over Cyprus. The British askd that the U.N. call on Greece to stop supplying arms to Cyprus terrorists, while Greece demanded the U.N. approve the right of Cypriots to chart their own political future

The British resolution would have the U.N. General Assembly note the charges that Greece had supplied arms, ammunition and money to Greek Cypriot terrorists, and call upon Greece to take "effective measures" to prevent such support of encouragement.

The Greek resolution would have the Assembly take note that the situation on Cyprus has "gravely deteriorated," and express the wish that Cypriots be given "the opportunity to determine their own future by the application of their right to self-determination"

National Guard Hits Army

WASHINGTON, Feb. 18--The president of the National Guard Assn. testified today that the Army is trying to drive the Guard down "the road to extinction."

Maj. Gen. Ellard A. Walsh also took another swipe at Secretary of Defense Wilson for having said that during the Korean War the Guard was a sort of "draft-dodging" haven.

Playwright Miller Indicted

WASHINGTON, Feb. 18--Playwright Arthur Miller, 41, was indicted on contempt of Congress charges today for refusing to identify fellow writers with whom he attended Communist party meetings in 1947. Miller is married to actress Marilyn Monroe.

The indictment, returned by a federal grand jury, charged Miller unlawfully refused to answer two questions when he appeared before the House Committee on Un-American Activities last June 21.

Queen Sees Philip

LISBON, Feb. 18--Queen Elizabeth II began a state visit to Portugal happily today with her handsome husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, dutifully following her every step.

"They are extremely happy," said Cmdr Richard Colville, Buckingham Palace press officer, who is accompanying the royal couple. "They are in great form."
