The varsity squash team picked up its seventh win of the season Saturday afternoon by solidly trouncing Army, 8 to 1. However, though the Crimson won by an impressive margin, there was some cause for alarm at the performance of the bottom four varsity players.
At first singles, captain Ben Heckscher won easily from G. P. Gaspard, 15-13, 15-4, 15-3, and at second singles Cal Place took a quick match from Tony Ellison, 15-10, 15-11, 10-15, 15-9. After a shaky start, Larry Sears took the measure of Pete Williams, 11-15, 15-11, 15-7, 15-4, and at fourth and fifth singles both Charlie Hamm, and Charlie MacVeagh won decisive 3-0 matches.
The tone of Harvard's victory changed markedly after fifth singles. Henry Cortesi won 17-14, 15-12, 9-15, 15-13; EdWadsworth won 15-12, 9-15, 18-17, 15-10; and Hank Holmes won 11-15, 15-12, 17-16, 15-7. Pete Lund lost to Army's Charlie Oxrider, 15-10, 15-6, 12-15, 15-12, for the varsity's sole loss.
