Despite a strong performance by injured leadoff man Mike Robertson, the varsity mile relay team finished third to Villanova and Morgan State in a feature race of Saturday's Millrose Games in New York's Madison Square Garden.
Badly spiked at the first turn, Robertson ran a 52.0 quarter, and handed second man Jim Cairns a two-yard lead over second place Morgan State. When Cairns handed off to Bill Morris, after a 49.7 second leg, only three yards separated him from third-place Villanova.
Morris handed off to anchorman Dick Wharton even with Morgan State, with Villnova still third. His time was 50.4. On the second turn both Morgan State and Villanova passed Wharton.
