NEW YORK--Ted Raymond's 2 to 0 decision over Columbia's heavyweight Gene Appel climaxed an uphill fight which saw the varsity wrestling team climb from a 6 to 11 deficit to eke out a close 15 to 11 win Saturday. This was the Crimson's first Ivy win in two tries and its fourth win of the season.
Dave Skeels, at 123, lost to Lion star Dave Clark, 2 to 0, but Paul Striker evened the score with a 5 to 0 decision. Columbia went ahead as Art Antonio, at 137, decisioned Bob Crook, 5 to 0.
Joe Noble's 7 to 1 decision over Sam Brice at 147 tied the score at six-all.
Columbia's Al Oppenheimer registered the only fall of the meet, as he pinned King Holmes, at 157, with a half-nelson at 2:29 of the third period. Holmes had held the advantage up until that point.
Coach Bob Pickett's experiment of switching Captain Bob Gilmor and Bob Foster paid rich dividends, as both registered convincing decisions. Wrestling at 167, instead of his usual 177, Foster outpointed Bill Smith, 7 to 2, while Gilmor shut out Tony Raab 6 to 0 at his new division.
