Hockey Team Downs Arlington 6-5 in Last Match Before Opener

The varsity hockey team edged the Arlington Arcadiens 6 to 5 in a see-saw scrimmage at Watson Rink last night. An hour long battle saw the Crimson overcome a 5-4 deficit by tallying twice in the closing minutes.

In the last scrimmage before the opening of the season, all players were used freely in an effort to provide the team with experience. Bobby Cleary scored two goals for the Crimson, while Higgin-bottom, Beadie, Guttu, and McVey tallied one apiece.

The Arcadiens, a local amateur team composed of former college players and members of past Olympic teams, proved formidable foes for the Crimson. They were sparked by Normie Wood, captain of the '54 Harvard team, who scored twice.

Coach Cooney Weiland appeared satisfied with the team's performance, but he emphasized the need for more games "to get the boys in shape." Commenting on the varsity's opener with B.U. tomorrow night at the Arena, he said, "I think we should be ready for them."

Weld South edged Straus South last night by a 21-20 score in the American League of the freshman intramural basketball program. Weld was paced by John Hasse who tallied 13 points for the victors.
