The American Association of University Professors is planning to grade colleges and universities from "A" to "F" according to faculty salary scales.

Those institutions whose pay scales are highest will receive grades of "A", while those with low pay scales will be graded "F". Some schools, whose pay scales are extremely low, will receive no grades at all.

Seymour E. Harris '20, Littauer Professor of Political Economy, said that the move was designed to "put a little pressure on colleges to raise pay." Harris has written an article on salaries and fringe benefits of American professors which will be published in the AAUP Bulletin.

The association's national council approved the plan at its Washington meeting last week. A Council spokesman noted that several colleges had granted faculty pay raises recently. Among those mentioned were Harvard, Yale, and Swarthmore.
