Big Green Fraternities Face Social Probation

A Dartmouth College committee yesterday placed eight fraternities on social probation for the rest of the semester. This action, taken by the Committee on Administration, is Dartmouth's punishment for the half-time fracas caused by fraternity pledges at the Harvard-Dartmouth game Oct. 26.

The eight fraternities, encompassing about 520 boys, are forbidden to hold any parties on or off campus, or to have women or liquor in the houses. These penalties, the harshest in the last four years, were announced in a special decision by the faculty committee.

In overthrowing the milder punishments recommended by the Interfraternity Judiciary Committee, the faculty group stated that the pledges of ten fraternities had "degraded themselves, their fraternities, and their college."
