Segregationist Looks for Support for Speech Here

Avid segregationist David R. Wang, executive secretary of the North American Citizens for the Constitution, wants to speak at the University this year if he can find an organization to sponsor him, it was learned yesterday.

Wang, class poet of Dartmouth in 1955 and a Chinese-American, said he would like to debate a member of the NAACP before a Harvard audience.

John M. Snygg '59, president of the Harvard Society for Minority Rights, and Herbert E. Milstein '58, president of the Harvard Liberal Union, said last night that their organizations might be interested in sponsoring such a debate.

Wang claims that he will "be going to all the Ivy League colleges" to expound his segregationist position and to try to organize White Citizens Councils on the campuses.

He said that he will be going to Yale and Princeton soon, and has tentative plans to visit Dartmouth and Pennsylvania. "I was a little surprised," he said, "that I haven't heard from Harvard yet." He indicated that if no student organization here were willing to sponsor him, he would contact "friends in the Harvard-Yenching Institute."

III-received at Columbia

Wang has made previous appearances at Princeton, Columbia and Yale. On October 30 he was ill-received by an audience of 450 at Columbia. Undismayed at his treatment there, Wang charged that the "Columbia Spectator packed the audience with pro-Zionists."

The segregationist claimed that the administration of most of the Ivy Colleges are strongly against him on anti-segregation grounds. But he said that their dislike of him may be "tinted with racial prejudice" because he is Chinese.

Wang is a supporter of John Kasper, convicted anti-segregationist agitator, and has solicited Ivy League students for funds to help bail Kasper out of prison.

The North American Citizens for the Constitution is an affiliate of the Whib Party, a segregationist political organization trying to gain support in the South.
