Phillips Brooks House may suffer a loss in revenue usually gained from the Combined Charities Drive, it was learned last night. If the new chairman of the Drive, Theodore O. Moscowitz '58, has his way, PBH may not be listed as a "preferred" organization on the drives list of charities, for the first time in the drive's history.

Moscowitz, who replaces former chairman William J. Dean '59, felt that the omission of PBH from the list might "raise the level of the drive," and mean that "we might possibly take in more money."

He planned to contact Brooks House officers to discover "how PBH would do if they weren't on the list," If they felt PBH would suffer, he added, it would probably be included on the list as a preferred organization. "Charity begins at home," he asserted.

It is probable that PBH would suffer, according to David Reiss '58, vice-president of the organization. Claiming that Moscowitz's suggestion came as "quite a surprise," he asserted "without fear of contradiction" that "we'd probably lose a great deal of money."

Citing the fact that generally a third of PBH income derives from Combined Charities, Reiss felt that if this money were not forthcoming, "we'd have no recourse but to limit our own activities." Asked whether PBH would still definitely proceed with plans to operate the drive for the Student Council, even if it were omitted from the list, Reiss replied, "I couldn't say."

Opposition to Moscowitz's plan came from other members of the Student Council, which must finally approve the list. President Larry R. Johnson '58 announced that "I will do all in my power to retain PBH on the Charities list. It fits the essential criteria for a preferred charity and has always gotten a greater amount than any other single charity."
