Soldiers Field tennis courts resounded this week as players in the men's and women's singles divisions of the 1956 Summer School Tennis Tournament began first-round matches.

Saturday, July 21, is the last day for these opening matches, and the results will appear on the Grays Hall bulletin board the following Monday.

Players have signed up in the beginners, intermediate, and advanced classes. Men's singles leads the divisions in number of entries, with 46 contestants. There are 16 entrants in women's singles. Doubles matches, which will take place at a date to be announced later, have 27 signed up for the men's division, eight for the women's and 31 in the mixed doubles.

Deadlines for the succeeding rounds of men's singles are July 28, August 4, and August 9. August 28 is the date for the second round of women's singles. The dates and times set for all final matches will appear later in the Summer News.

Winners of the matches will be determined on a best-of-three-sets basis, except for the final rounds of men's singles and doubles, which will require five sets for each separate contest.
