The Committee on Educational Policy will consider the possibility of a permanent special section in elementary calculus and analytical geometry, Lynn H. Loomis, head of the Mathematics Department, revealed last night.
The section, similar in size and purpose to the one given experimentally this year by John T. Tate, Jr., associate professor of Mathematics, will be open to concentrators in Mathematics and students of special ability. It will cover more ground in one year than does the normal Math la-lb course.
Admission to the new "honors" section will probably be determined by College Board Examinations and Advanced Standing Tests, Loomis said, although this method has not yet received final approval.
