Led by Vice Commodore George Cronin, the Harvard sailing team swept a triangular meet at the Coast Guard Academy in New London Sunday. The Crimson downed boats from the University of Rhode Island and the Coast Guard Academy, taking first place in all three races.
The three firsts were good for 12 1/2 points. The home crew was second with eight and the Rhode Islanders trailed with seven points.
Cronin skippered the 24-foot Ravens in freezing temperatures which forced three of the six expected boats to remain at home. The low temperatures also forced cancellation of a freshman race against the Coast Guardsmen. Said Cronin: "It was just too damn cold."
Next week the sailors will be down at Annapolis for the MacMillan Cup races, one of the year's biggest Eastern events.
