Ivy League Coaches, Writers Pick Celi, Cleary for All-League Sextet

The Crimson hockey team gilded its third straight Ivy League title by placing two players on both the first and second All-Ivy League sextets.

Defenseman Mario Celi and center Bob Cleary were selected for the first team. Sophomore Cleary, also chosen first line center on the All-New England team, was third in league scoring with 12 points. Celi, a senior, also won the title of the most improved player in the league.

Captain Charley Flynn led the second team at goal, while John Copeland, another sophomore, gained one of the defense posts on that team.

Rounding out the first team were the league's leading scorer, captain Pete Tutless of Brown, and Henry Roulon-Miller of Princeton at the wings, Yale's George Scherer at goal, and Russ Kingman, Brown's ace defenseman, the only unanimous choice. He and Scherer tied in the voting for the league's Most Valuable Player.

In addition to placing him on the first team, the coaches rated Cleary the top forward in the league, as well as the top sophomore. Kingman took the honors as the best defenseman.

An interesting sidelight in the league tabulations is the fact that although Flynn was the most effective goalie in the league, allowing only 11 goals in his eight games, Scherer walked off with the honors. The Yale goalie allowed 13 goals in eight games.

The Crimson shut out Yale, 2 to 0 in its last game to avenge an earlier 1 to 0 loss, and clinched the league title with a record of seven wins and the lone loss. Yale placed second with a 5-3 record.
