Buck Given Degree At Western Reserve

Paul H. Buck, Francis Lee Higginson Professor of History and Director of the University Libraries, has received the Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Western Reserve University.

The Cleveland university conferred the degree on Sunday at the dedication of the new I. F. Freiberger Library. At the same time, Ralph E. Ellsworth, director of libraries at Iowa State, was awarded the Doctor of Laws degree.

Cited by Western Reserve for his "integrity, devotion to duty, and his understanding of the student and the faculty mind, Buck became Dean of the Faculty in 1942 and was made Provost in 1945. His book, "Road to Reunion" won the Pulitzer Prize for history in 1938.
