Only Crimson Defeats 'Cliffe in Hockey

Radcliffe's Club Hockey has recently completed another undefeated season in women's inter-collegiate play, including an "unofficial" victory at the annual Wellesley "playday."

The victorious season failed to disturb traditional Annex apathy. "We usually win all our games against other girls," commented Sigrid Keyserling '60, newly-elected captain of the Radcliffe team.

It was only against the superior strength of Harvard units that this fall's team, captained by Sarah Stevens '57, failed to win. The Cliffies lost to the polished athletes of three clubs: Delphic, 0-2; Porcellian, 0-2; and Fox, 1-2.

A Law School team managed only a 0-0 tie with the lady players, while Radcliffe's only victory against a Harvard team was its 3-0 win over the A.D. Club.

In their first game of regular season play, the Cliffe-dwellers overwhelmed Wheelock College, 8 to 0. High scorer of the game was Judy Rawle '60 with five goals. Jackson College lost to the Annex, 5 to 1, as Airlie Cameron '57 scored all the team's goals.

Both inter-collegiate games were played at home on the Radcliffe quad. A game had been scheduled at Pembroke, but was cancelled "because it was on a Tuesday and too many people had labs," the new captain reported.

Because they scored the most goals and had none scored against them at the Wellesley play-day, the Cliffies consider themselves the unofficial winner of the annual field hockey meet for New England women's colleges.

Annex Shines

There is no official winner, although each school plays three 20-minute games. The Annex overpowered Wheelock, 6 to 0; U of Mass., 6 to 0; and Colby, 2 to 0.

Six Radcliffe girls were among 24 selected to compose two all-college teams for an exhibition game. They were Candy Allen '60, Bud Blair '57, Lucy Newlin '58, Betsy Witte '57, Sigrid Keyserling '60, and Ann Brace '57, current president of the Radcliffe Athletic Association. Sarah Stevens '57 received honorable mention for her performance at the play-day.

"Other schools are amazed that we have no particular varsity team," Sigrid said. "But everyone's so good, we don't need a first team. We just rotate."
