Th Young Republican Club is again beset by an intraclub squabble. This year, as was the case two years go, the dispute is preliminary to the organization's election.
One of the two leading contenders for the presidency of the HYRC is the club's treasurer, Thomas A. Stalker '58, who controls the money and membership cards of the group. His opposition has organized into a movement to strip him of his control over membership cards, in the past a key factor in elections.
The movement, however, has been stymied by the failure of president Donald Hodel '57 to call a meeting of the Planning Committee. He is the only person constitutionally authorized to call club meetings, so without his support any effort to relieve Stalker of his duties would fail. Stalker and Hodel are roommates.
A majority of the Planning Committee met in rump session Monday, the usual time of committee meetings, to formulate plans to counter Hodel and the powerful group backing Stalker, led by former president John R. Thompson '57 and Donald Pellman '57.
This six-man majority of the executive board issued an ultimatum to Hodel, demanding that he call a meeting, but the HYRC president was "officially unavailable."
