Adlai E. Stevenson definitely will not speak at the University or even travel through Cambridge when he comes to speak in Boston next Monday. James S. Lanigan '39, at the Washington head-quarters of the Democratic National Committee, explained yesterday that Stevenson would be busy all day preparing that evening's major campaign address, to be given in Mechanics Hall.
Monday's edition of the Harvard Democratic Review had claimed, under a head-line reading "ADLAI HERE OCT. 29; PROPOSES H-BOMB BAN," that "Unofficial, but highly placed sources have indicated that Stevenson will appear also in Cambridge during his visit."
The Students for Stevenson, The Liberal Union, and the Young Democrats had asked Stevenson to speak here. In 1954 the former Illinois Governor drew capacity crowds when he delivered the Godkin Lectures at Sanders Theater.
