Junior Varsity Sextet Defeats Dedham On Four Goal Surge in Third Period

A four-goal surge in the last half of the third period enabled the junior varsity hockey team to defeat the Dedham Tigers in their opening game last night at the Watson Rink, 8 to 4.

The Dedham sextet, composed of former college players, mostly from Harvard and Dartmouth, fell behind 4 to 1 early in the second period but rallied with three goals to tie the score at 4-all. Two Dedham penalties within about a minute of each other in the last period proved costly, for sophomore Alex Kalil scored from the right after taking Ed Burlingame's pass to break the tie.

Senior defenseman Denny French then tallied his second goal of the night less than a minute later on a shot into the upper left corner. The two final Crimson tallies came on breakaways by Tim Clark and Burlingame.

Dedham scored before the game was a minute old, when former Dartmouth star Bill Riley poked in a loose puck. Junior Ted Hollander tied the game.
