Twenty-five cents will entitle anyone from the University to enter the traditional Wellesley Bike Race this Saturday.
For his entrance fee, each racer receives a map of the course and an identification number to keep him from cheating. Stationary and floating checkers use the numbers to identify any racer who hitches a ride on a truck or takes a short cut. If a racer is missed at any point along the course, no prize.
Even those who race legally, however, will have much less incentive to win this year. Wellesley has attacked the past commercialism of the race, and has forbidden the Bicycle Exchange to donate a free bike to the winner. The traditional winner's kiss has likewise been done away with.
