Strong Tar Heel Squad to Oppose Varsity in Tennis

The varsity tennis team will oppose North Carolina today at 8:45 p.m. in a match that should bring the Crimson's winning streak of four to an end.

North Carolina defeated the varsity twice by 14-1 scores when the two teams met during the Crimson's spring tour this year. The Tar Heels have also beaten Presbyterian, a squad that downed the Crimson April 20, 7 to 2.

"We are the underdogs, and we might as well admit it. North Carolina has one of the finest teams in the country," varsity coach Jack Barnaby said yesterday.

The top three men on the Tar Heel squad are practically equal, for number one man Herb Browne has been extended to match point by Bob Payne has been extended to match point by Bob Payne and Tom Bradford, who play at two and three respectively. Other North Carolina players are Ron Kerdasha, Pete Green, and Don Thompson. Each member of the squad has held some national boys or junior title.

Gravem Opposes Browne

Barnaby will send Ham Gravem against Browne in first singles. He will follow with captain Alex Haegler, Brooks Harris, Conrad Fischer Don Mayers, and Maynard Canfield.

Ben Heckscher and Gravem will play number one doubles for the Crimson. Haegler and Harris will play second doubles, and either Canfield and Fischer, or Mayers and Ian Gianetti will meet the third Tar Heel doubles team.

The freshman tennis team will meet Milton Academy today at 3:45 p.m., also on the Soldiers Field courts. The squad has been hampered by poor weather all spring, but should beat Milton easily.
