Eli Tennis Team Defeats Crimson

Yale's top four players lost only eight games as the powerful Eli tennis team completely outclassed the varsity, 12 to 3, Saturday on the Soldiers Field courts. In its final match, the Crimson, which finished the season with a 10-8 record, won only the eighth and ninth singles and third doubles matches.

At one, the Blue's ace, Bill Cranston, took only a little over 20 minutes to defeat Ham Gravem, 6-0, 6-2. Cranston, who is the only one of Yale's first five players not graduating this year, displayed a very aggressive game, frequently rushing the net behind his cannonball serve.

In the best match of the day, the Blue's first doubles team of Cranston and Dick Raskind edged Captain Alex Haegler and Brooks Harris 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. The steady play of Cranston and Raskind offset the sporadically brilliant tennis of the New England Intercollegiate doubles champions.

Captain Dale Junta led the undefeated freshman team to a 5 to 4 victory over Yale here Saturday. In singles, Junta defeated Sam Schoonmaker, 8-6, 6-4, and teamed with Larry Sears to take the first doubles match from Al Bennett and Schoonmaker, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.
