Cooney Loses Golf Semifinals

The two Crimson golf semi-finalists yesterday were eliminated in the Eastern Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships at New Haven.

Captain Ted Cooney, who relinquished his title as New England collegiate golf champion to play in the weekend tournament at New Haven, lost to Yale Captain Jerry Fehr, 2 up. Final scores were Fehr 75, Cooney 78.

Number six man J. Brook Stokes, former state and city champion from Memphis, Tenn., lost to Perky Cullinane of Georgetown, two and one. Cullinane lost to Fehr in the afternoon finals, two and one.

Last year Fehr defeated Cooney, 66 to 63, on the par 70 New Haven course. In team play over the weekend Cooney lost to Fehr in a sudden-death overtime match, giving Yale the team title over the six-man Crimson squad.

The varsity golfers will have an opportunity to face Yale again this Friday when the two teams meet on the Charles River Country Club course at 2 p.m.
