The long-hitting varsity golf team meets Williams at 2 p.m. today at the Charles River Country Club.
Captain Ted Cooney, who fired a 69 against Wesleyan last Friday, will lead off for the Crimson against Williams ace Randy Carey, the Denver Open Champion. Jim Bailey and Brock Stokes will play numbers two and three respectively, with Bailey probably opposing Williams captain John Gehret. Both Crimson men score in the middle 70's.
Jim Jones and Bruce Thurmond, both seventies players also, will fill the number three and four positions, and Bob Ornsteen and Roger Fleischman round out the first string squad of seven.
The golfers met Williams earlier this season at Penehurst, N.C., in a practice match during spring vacation and defeated them in four ball play, 31 1/2 to 7 1/2. In four ball, the teams play each other individually, counting one point for match play on each nine holes and another for the whole eighteen.
Today, the teams will engage in individual match play, and each man who wins will take one point.
The golfers have a busy schedule for the weekend as they meet the University of Massachusetts and Holy Cross Friday and Amherst Saturday.
