Diver Stone Places Second in Shot Put

The freshman swimming and track teams lost to Exeter Saturday despite the efforts of diver Greg Stone. Since Stone and the Crimson swimmers arrived early at Exeter and found the pool locked, they decided to watch the track meet.

Stone watched the shot-putting a while and then asked track coach Al Wilson if he could try a put or two for the Crimson. With Wilson's approval and borrowed tennis shoes, Stone promptly put the shot 47 ft. 8 1/2 in. and netted a second place.

Later, he scored 86.6 points diving for his highest total score and third straight first place of the year. Stone said he did some shot-putting as a high school senior, but that he had not worked out since then except for one afternoon a month ago.
