College Regulations Prevent Reservists Canvassing Houses

Members of the 356th Field Artillery Batallion ran into trouble last week in their effort to canvass the Houses for volunteers, it was learned yesterday.

Students from the college, who form a large part of the reserve unit, were assigned as campaigners to the Houses and were planning, with the Masters' permission, to visit undergraduates in Reserves. Contacted by one of the House Masters however, Associate Dean Robert B. Watson, informed the reservists that it was against University policy to permit outside groups to canvas in the Houses.

Major Robert J. Kaufmann, commander of the batallion, said that the unit had no intention of disobeying University regulations. Members will now seek the permission of each House Master to hold informal meetings in which they which explain the advantages of the unit.
