It was a happy anniversary of Dunster House football last Thursday, as they defeated Lowell, 18 to 0, and moved into first place in intramural football.
The Dunster-Lowell game, postponed three times because of rain, marked the 25th year of House football. In other games Thursday, Kirkland defeated Leverett, 7 to 6, and Adams and Dudley played a scoreless game.
The Funsters scored in the second, third and fourth quarters, the first tally coming when end Bruce Downey caught a long pass and crossed into the end zone. Dunster passed only four times in the game, connecting on each one.
In the third quarter, Dunster fullback Art Martin scored a touchdown after scooping up a Lowell fumble on the Bellhops' 6-yard line. George Douse passed for two of the touchdowns, the last in the fourth quarter when halfback Howey Adler connected with another long one to give Dunster a decisive victory.
The strong Dunster line was responsible for shutting out the Bellboys. Scotty Monroe, Bob Wheeler and Fritz Kussin all helped with Dunster defensive play.
In House football standings, Dunster now ranks first, and Kirkland moved up from a last-place tie to fourth place. Final House games will be played next week, as Dunster meets Winthrop and Leverett plays Dudley on Tuesday. Eliot plays Kirkland, and Adams will meet Lowell on Wednesday.
