Varsity Will Sail In Trophy Meet

Crimson sailors are scheduled to compete for the Danmark Trophy against 12 other U.S. and Canadian colleges on the Charles today at 5 p.m. and tomorrow at 9 a.m. Team members will also travel to the Coast Guard Academy and Babson Institute for meets over the busy weekend.

Brown may offer the team its stiffest competition in the trophy races, Manager Bill Owen predicts. The Bruins edged the squad by four points in another triangular trophy meet held last Saturday.

Fred Hoppin and Ash Langworthy, commodore of the club, will skipper the 12-foot dinghies in the races at M.I.T., while George Cronin will head the team at the New London 24-foot sloop competition today.

Despite losses due to graduation, the team has been fortunate in maintaining its strength, according to Owen, and is virtually as strong as last year. Last year's Danmark Champion, M.I.T., has lost two of its best skippers and is not likely to retain the title this year, Owen said.
