Solicitation for the Combined Charities Drive will start on October 24 and continue through October 28, Albert B. Levin '56, Student Council President, announced last night.
Levin approved the entire program for this year's Drive which the co-chairmen of Combined Charities, David M. Dorsen '56 and Edward M. Strasser '56, submitted to him on Monday.
Students may contribute to any recognized charitable organization, Strasser said last night, although as in the past there will be several recommended charities. The names of these will appear on the solicitation cards.
The six organizations on this list will be Phillips Brooks House Association, Red Feather, National Scholarship Service and Fund for Negro Students, Salzburg Seminar, and American Friends Service Committee. Strasser noted that these are the same six groups which the Combined Charities Committee selected last year.
PBH Needs $2,200
In the report submitted to Levin, three criteria were established for choosing this list. These provided that the charity be basically oriented toward student need, non-sectarian, and partially dependent on student funds for its activities.
Last year PBH received the largest sum of money from the Drive. But according to Brooks House President Edward A. Nordlinger '56, it must receive even more--"at least $2,200"--to meet its budget this year.
