The Student Council last night endorsed a petition signed by more than 900 upperclassmen in favor of allowing woman guests in the Houses at 1 p.m. on weekdays, three hours earlier than the present rule permits.

Albert B. Levin '56, Council President, said the group's executive committee would try to meet with Dean Bundy today to re-open the parietal rules issue. By a 7 to 5 vote, the Council had decided to "accept the petition as a valid manifestation of student sentiment" and "to endorse the petition and accept the responsibility for presenting it to the proper authorities."

The five dissenters to the motion, Levin pointed out, basically agreed with the petition but merely wanted time to ascertain the Faculty's point of view on the subject.

Lownes Brought Petitions

Thomas M. Lownes '56--who brought about the circulation of the petitions in House dining halls last night, recalled that it was during his freshman year that the 1-4 p.m. parietal hours were removed. At that time the Administration granted in return permission to entertain women up to 11 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. on Saturdays, but the net parietal loss was still 15 hours a week.

"There is no reason for the Administration to object to the early afternoon hours," Lownes asserted. He added that petitions will again be circulated in the Houses at noon today, in an effort to get 1500 signatures--more than half the number of resident upperclassmen.

Meanwhile, the Council in other action last night tabled for a week a proposal that it itself should hand out undistributed student football tickets on Saturday mornings of home games.
