Last winter's verbal battle between the Western "have" coaches and the Eastern "have-nots" was resumed again this week when Minnesota's Johnny Mariucci and Michigan's Vic Heyliger took issue with Monday's statement by Dartmouth coach Eddie Jeremiah.
Gopher coach Mariucci, whose teams have won two straight Western Intercollegiate Hockey League titles solely with American personel, said, "We at Minnesita don't have any Canadians, but our doors are open. One good Canadian player is worth ten American coaches."
Hoyligor defended Canadian players on the Michigan team, saying, "Canadian boys in our hockey have improved the game tremendously."
He termed opposition to Canadian players on American college teams "sour grapes" and said Jeremiah "has had losing seasons for so many years he is frustrated."
