The freshman fencing team opened its season at Sargent College last night with a convincing victory over a previously undefeated team made up of Boston College freshman and members of the Salle Eide Fencing School.
The Crimson took the foil and sabre contests by identical 6-3 scores, but lost the epee, 2 to 4. Peter Boyce, the only Crimson fencer with previous experience, won all three of his foil matches, while Doug Runnels, David Silbert and Arthur Steinberg each took two out of their three sabre contests, and Phil Holcomb did well in the epee.
The number of epee matches for each member of the Crimson team was reduced from the customary three to two, because the Boston team was short one man.
