Varsity, Freshman Wrestlers Bow; Freshmen Elect Eaton as Captain

Brown's polished wrestlers handed the Crimson varsity and freshman teams their first defeats of the season Saturday afternoon at Providence.

The powerful Bruin varsity needed only six matches to clinch its 17 to 9 victory. But the Brown freshmen had to extend their meet until the final bout before dropping the Yardlings, 16 to 13.

Junior Ed Keating at 130 momentarily stalled the Brown victory march as he ended his own personal losing streak by defeating Frank Yatsu for the third straight year. But thereafter the Bruins swept every varsity contest except the 177 and unlimited divisions.

In the 177 match, Captain Ken Culbert humbled his 11th of the last 12 opponents with a 6 to 0 decision. Unlimited heavy-weight Pete Morrison decisioned Don Selfent, 5 to 2. A year ago Selfent beat Morrison by the same score.

Brown victories came over sophomores Dave McLane, Phil Andrews, Mike Murray, Jim Dale, and Bob Gilmor who was pinned with 20 seconds remaining in the last period.

Before the freshman meet the Yardlings elected Charles F. Eaton of Hollis Hall and Wellesley, captain of the 1954-55 team. Eaton, a graduate of Exeter, wrestles at 177.
