David B. Cole '56, secretary of the Young Conservative League, has withdrawn his protest, made last Friday to Doan Watson, against a "waiver of rules" allowing the Green Feather group to distribute buttons in the Union and in some Houses.
Dean Watson explained it last night. "I in no manner suspended the regular rules of organization for the Green Feather group. For many years it has been a practice to grant to temporary groups of students permission to do what they want to do without going through the tedious process of University recognition."
According to Watson, "Dave was only too glad to withdraw his protest when he understood that no special favoritism had been shown to the Green Feather group.
Last Thursday, Cole had stated, "If, before the Conservative League had been recognized, we had passed out pro-McCarthy buttons, we never would have been recognized. It looks almost as if the Dean's Office were giving political favoritism to liberal groups."
Cole said, "There is no question of politics involved. The Conservative League does not object to the selling of Green Feathers. It is rather a matter of fundamental principle."
