Fairbank Misquoted

When Professor John K. Fairbank '29 said that he advocated recognition of Red china in 1940 and he "still thought it was a good idea," he was referring to recognition in 1949 and not 1954, the Far Eastern expert explained yesterday. Fairbank's original statement was made at a Rounion symposium on Monday.

Recognition now would be a mistakes, Fairbank explained, because it would accomplish no good and would give the Communists a strong propaganda point.
