No Crimson varsity lacrosse team has beaten Yale since before the war. Several times previously the Crimson has gone into the game undefeated in New England competition; but, if Bruce Monro's squad comes through as expected, tomorrow's win at New Haven will be the first in a decade.
The Crimson attack has been strong all season. Ed Curtis and Captain Phil Waring have consistently turned in high scoring performances, and Monk Aiello, in addition to scoring frequently, has complied an impressive record of assists. The three have played together for two years now, and, like the rest of the seniors on the squad, will be playing their last game for the Crimson.
Recently, the midfields, especially the third, have begun to score heavily and, in the 10 to 8 victory over Dartmouth on Saturday, they figured in six of the goals. Dexter Lewis, Tim Anderson, and Albie Wells started the season with no previous varsity experience, but are now the strongest offensive line.
Fred Horween, working with three-year veteran Todd Goodwin and sophomore Karl Bjork in the first line, Skip Baldwin, centering Chuck Edwards and Jim Telfer in the third, and John Lane, utility midfielder and attack man, are top threats from tomorrow's game in the other lines.
Tom Crump, John Hartwell, Paul Jones and goalie Steve DenHartog have made clearing a fine art and have turned in steady defensive work against the East's top attacks.
The Yardlings, fresh from their 8 to 7 upset victory over previously undefeated Governor Dummer on Wednesday, also meet the Bull Pups at New Haven. The freshman game starts at 2 p.m.; the varsity at 2:30.
