Varsity Tennis Team To Meet Tech Today

The varsity tennis team is favored to gain its fifth straight win when it takes on M.I.T. at 3:45 p.m. today on the Soldiers Field courts. Crimson coach Jack Barnaby expects a "rougher match," however, than the squad got in its last two outings--shutouts over Springfield and Bowdoin.

Tech, led by Captain John Melavas, beat Bowdoin by a score of 6 to 3, as compared to the Crimson's 9 to 0 triumph, but the Polar Bears' first and third men in the match with M.I.T. were not in the lineup against the varsity.

Barnaby's roster will be intact today, although Alex Haegler and Brooks Harris are somewhat handicapped by sore muscles. The coach will go with Ham Gravem, Captain John Rauh, Haegler, Harris, Gene Mann, and Donn Spencer, in that order, in the singles.

If Barnaby can persuade the Tech coach to schedule some extra singles matches, then Don Bossart, Conrad Fischer, Herb Stone, and Terry King may also see action. The Crimson doubles lineup will depend on the results of the singles.
