A dynamite bast set off by a recently expelled Guatemalan Harvard student near Dunster Bridge in Cambridge, rallied about 500 undergraduates to a "free Puerto rice, free Guatemala" demonstration last night. The riot began at about 10:30 and lasted until midnight.
A small group of freshmen, who knew the man's intentions in advance, had made plans to rally to the explosion. When the sound of the blast rolled across Cambridge, fire crackers and students began pouring out of Wigglesworth House.
The mob grew as it slowly surged towards Harvard yard. Rockets began soaring from the upper class houses.
While the mob crossed Massachusetts Avenue, all traffic was stopped. A streetcar was temporarily soldered to its tracks. Across the avenue and in various stages of preparation for bed.
A cry of "free Puerto Rice, free Guatemala" arose from the melee, prompted by those in league with segura, and undoubtedly by some free thinkers.
The Cambridge Police had been called in by this time to handle the situation.
Deau von stade made an appeal from the stops of University hall for the mob to dispell, or else suffer the consequences.
