Gerry Posts Win In 12-Mile Race

Hal Gorry, varsity cross-country captain, overcame a six minute handicap to win the Hyde Shoe A. A. 12-mile handicap road race Saturday. Gerry's time was 1 hour, 9:36 minutes, which, with a six minute handicap, was recorded officially at 1:15.36.

Gerry's win enabled the Crimson to finish third in the team standings with 28 points. The Boston Athletic Association took first, and the Pioneer Club finished second.

Kelley's Time Fastest

John Gerry, Hal's brother and a sophomore here, finished 17th. Also scoring for the Crimson was Alden Carpenter, a freshman cross-country runner.

Fastest actual time was recorded by Boston University's John Kelley, who ran the course in a record 1:03.42. Gerry's actual time was sixth best in the meet.

Gerry took over the lead at the ten-mile mark, but was hard-pressed by Kelley as the race neared its conclusion. Gerry's winning margin was 20 yards.

The times for Saturday's meet were considered unusually fast because the race was run over traffic-jammed Cambridge streets.
