While four Yardling swimmers set a freshman record for brevity last Saturday, teaming to swim the 200-yard free style in 1:35.4, four honorary teammates swam continuously throughout the meet in a gold fish bowl placed on the high diving board.
After the meet, in which the freshmen upset national interscholastic champion Williston Academy, 43 to 32, the largest goldfish passed away, presumably from a stroke.
Of the remaining three fish, two are now doing the back stroke, which either means that they are in critical condition or bodes well for Crimson back stroke chances at New Haven two weeks from now. The last fish is doing the side stroke, an event not swum in regulation competition. "If they survive," said Captain Sigo Falk, "we shall beat Yale."
