Army's granite wrestling team stretched its six year dominance over the varsity to a seventh disastrous year, thrashing the Crimson grapplers 27 to 3 Saturday afternoon on the West Point mat.
The well-conditioned Cadet squad marched through seven matches without a loss. Only Crimson heavyweight Pete Morrison saved a shutout with his decision win over veteran John Lobbs.
Weakened by exam period lay-offs and the loss of regular lightweights Ed Keating and Dick Adams, the varsity held the polished West Pointers through the early minutes of each match but folded after the six minute mark.
Army won three matches by pins over al Muggis, Phil Burnaman, and Bob Hock. Captain Chick Chandler and 177-pound Ken Culbert lost their first duels of the season. Don Fern and Frank Baker dizzied out in the third period, dropping close decisions.
Yardling heavyweight Bob Wynn's second period pin kept the freshman undefeated record intact as the team skimmed by Loomis, 17 to 15. Going into Wynn's match the freshmen were trailing by three points.
